Blog Post #4 Computer Buying Project

For my Computer Buying Project, I chose the PC over the Mac. I have been using PC all my life and find it easier to use and understand than the Mac. The video card on the PC is better; meaning it can handle more programs running at once on it. The hard drive has a larger space and the upgrades are more substantial and effective than ones on the Mac. The PC has more variety and the Macs and all for a lower price.
If I had been using Macs my whole life and knew how to use them effectively, I think I would still go with the PC, now seeing them at a side-by-side comparison. Both computers and great and people may opt for the PC because of the lower price or the Mac because of the popularity but I would personally choose the PC for the software and internal hard drives operating system.

We have gone through three classes through Power Searching with Google. Each class has been focused on the different ways you can filter and specify what results you want to get from Google. In the first class, I learned that you can filter your image results by the colors that appear most prominently in them. I also learned that the way you order the words in your search has an impact on the results as well. In the second class, I learned that there are all sorts of media that you can look through. I knew that there was images and web and news but I didn't know that you can also choose patents and it will give you instructions for building different things. I also learned about the SERP, or Search Engine Results Page. And finally, in the third class, I learned that there are different ways you can filter your results. You can use intext:___ to find a certain word or term in the pages that Google comes up with or use the double quotation marks to show that you want a specific phrase. The second thing I learned about was the different file types that there are in Google. I knew about the PDF and DOC files but there's also things like PPT and I thought that was interesting.

2014 Olympics

The Olympics this year takes place in Sochi. One thing that is a concern for the people going there is the security. There have already been a few threats of terrorism by some people in Russia. After the Boston Marathon bombing, there have been increasing concerns on topics like this. For example, the Fourth of July fireworks display on the Charles River had increased security and they took more precautions when it came to bringing bags and other personal items onto the river. 

The Olympics is not only in a place where Americans are not the most comfortable, but also the security is an issue. There has been a few arguments in the American team as to if they should even go to the Olympics. In the past few weeks, there have even been shootings in schools in Sochi, making the American people more concerned for the safety of the athletes. But there should not be an issue if the security is good and the 2014 Winter Games should be fun to watch.
